BENEFIT FOR THE INTER-TRIBAL YOUTH CENTRE

The Inter-Tribal Youth Centre, located on the bottom floor of the Native Friendship Centre of Montreal, was initiated as part of the Urban Multi-Purpose Aboriginal Youth Centre project. Anyways, we’re pretty broke and understaffed…and the youth need a lot more than we can currently offer.

Specifically, we are raising money to buy a second hand van. The Native Friendship Centre already has a van, but it is used for the street patrol (which offers front line services on the streets Montreal) and in any case, it is on its last legs.

Why a van?

Not that this will solve the problems of homelessness and extreme poverty among many indigenous/Inuit/native youth, but a van will enable our staff to seriously cut down on transportation costs every time we have an activity - from going to the radio station, to free movies in the city, to getting to Kahnawake and Kahnasatake. The vehicle would also enable us to be able to find and get apartments with street youth and assist them in protecting their own rights to housing, and would serve us very well in all of our accompaniments.

So come out!! watch some underground hip hop and spoken word Montreal performers, listen to some golden era hip hop, and get down good dancehall, roots and reggae.
